PRIVATE LESSONS

Private Photography Lessons

$198.00 for 2 hours

1-on-1 photography lessons with Blair. The lessons are tailored to you so you’ll get exactly what you want. Limited availability.

Different people learn in different ways. For some, reading ebooks, searching online tutorials and watching training videos works well. Others need a more interactive experience to learn effectively. I am passionate about photography education and truly want you to become a better photographer. So I’m very happy to be adding private lessons as a service.

My private photography lessons are exactly that – personal, one-on-one lessons tailored to you. You’ll be able to ask me questions live on the spot and get immediate feedback.

If you live near or are traveling to the Memphis area, we can meet in person! Of course, not everyone can travel to Memphis. I also offer private online lessons, too.

How Does It Work?

When you’re ready to setup a lesson with me, here’s what happens:

  1. You decide on a block of lesson time.
  2. You contact me.
  3. I’ll reply via email (typically within 48 hours) and ask follow up questions, if any are needed.
  4. Together, we will craft lessons around your needs, and set a date & time for our lesson. If we are meeting for an in-person lesson, we will set a meeting place, too.
  5. Lesson time! We meet in person or connect via Zoom, learn a bunch and have fun.

I will do my absolute best to teach you as much as possible during our time together. I want you to get the most value for your time and money.

I promise to give you top quality lessons.

What Do You Teach?

For in-person lessons, your lesson can be anything from field work, operating your camera, focusing techniques, filters, reading and interpreting a scene, composition, asset management, post processing – and everything in between.

Online lessons are a little different. Virtual learning is truly a wonder of our modern age. Never before has it been easier to directly connect teachers and students anywhere on the globe. However, I don’t think all photography topics are best served by online classes.

Subjects that are good for online learning:

  • Post processing tools and techniques

  • Photo organization & asset management

  • Composition

  • Photo & website critiques

  • Portfolio reviews

Subjects that are not good for online learning:

  • How to use your camera (dials, buttons, menus)

  • Interpreting a location and changing shooting style per conditions

  • Focusing techniques

  • Learning & practicing long exposure techniques

  • Exposure settings in dynamic lighting conditions

Summed up, topics that are either software-based or don’t require physical, hands-on learning lend themselves very well to online classrooms. Such topics don’t require students and teacher to be colocated. Those are the topics I will focus on with you in our virtual classroom.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is your fee?
A:
My fee is $99/hr, with a minimum of 2 hrs.

Q: How do I use Zoom? Where do I get it?
A: You can download Zoom for free and it runs on a variety of OS versions (both Windows and Mac). It is very easy to install and register. Zoom works very much like a phone. Of course, we’ll share our Zoom links with one another before our first lesson.

Q: I don’t know if the Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop topic I want to learn more about is suitable for an online lesson. Advice?
A:  Contact me with your topic, we’ll chat, and determine if it’s something I think I can effectively teach online.

Q: Can I get in person coaching?
A: Yes, certainly, provided you (and I!) are in the Memphis area. This is a good option if you want advice on how to use Adobe Lightroom in organizing, managing and processing your images. I recommend at least a 2-minimum hour block of time for an in person lesson.

Q: Do I need to use my entire lesson time in a single sitting?
A: It depends. If you purchased 4 or more hours of lesson time, we can talk about dividing lessons into smaller segments. It will depend on the lesson plan or if our schedules dictate it.

Q: My schedule changed last minute. What do I do?
A: Hey, life happens. Contact me and we’ll work out a new schedule. If the worst happens and we can’t reschedule, you’ll get a full refund.

Q: My question is not answered above. What now?
A: Ask me!
