Met with the “aha moment” crew in the Airstream mobile film unit outside the Rock N’ Soul Museum this morning to share my aha moment. A great group of young kids traveling across the country in a 34 foot Airstream. One from Northern California, one from Atlanta, and another one from Australia, living in New York at the moment, and getting married soon.
Mutual of Omaha is the “proud sponsor of life’s aha moments.” They just arrived from Baton Rouge Louisiana, and will be heading to Huntsville, Alabama after Memphis.
They will be in Memphis Thursday, May 27th and Friday May 28th, from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. So, go on down and share with them an aha moment in your life.
My aha moment was how I got into sports photography in Memphis. In June of 2005, my family and I were visiting Moab, Utah doing our usual adventure vacation. I was struck by the beauty of Arches and Canyonlands national parks, and walking in downtown Moab, saw an incredible gallery that captured the beauty in print that matched what I saw. WOW!!! His name was Tom Till.
Upon arriving back in Memphis, I spoke to my longtime childhood friend from Chicago Michael Martino. He knew that I had always liked photography, but never took up the art and studied it. Mike encouraged me to do so.
Shortly after that conversation I came across an article in the local paper The Commercial Appeal featuring Dr. Tom Fox a professional photographer here in town, it had a phone number and I felt prompted to call. Dr. Fox was gracious enough to meet for lunch, encouraged me to join The Memphis Camera Club which I became a member of in the summer of 2005. We continue to be close friends.
I’ve since served as Field Trip Chairman, Treasurer, Vice President, and now President. I’ve been blessed to learn so much about this wonderful craft from Dr. Tom Fox and the members of the Memphis Camera Club.
So whatever your passion…go on down and let them know your aha moment!!!
