Photography continues to gain in popularity with the ease of digital cameras.
What challenges most new photographers is the ability to master their camera, and then utilize it to the best of their abilities in the field. That’s one of the driving forces for me to conduct classroom workshops, but then have out in the field hands on workshops.
One of my favorite places to get away from it all here in Memphis is Reelfoot Lake in Northwest Tennessee. Not too far of a drive but it has water, birds, flowers, landscape. The best way to see it is from a boat, and I’m fortunate to know the person who has the boat and knows the lake like the back of his hand.
Here are some of the photos from the June Workshop. It’s an annual workshop which I usually hold the end of June because of the baby Osprey birds are still in the nest and getting ready to fly. We get up close and personal.
Sunrise and Sunset are always special times as well. A graduated neutral density filter is a must to tone down the highlights of the sun and still give a good exposure to the shadows. The dynamic range of cameras are getting better but still not as good a the human eye.
Reelfoot Lake is a great place to photograph. So if you are in the area, think about the workshop next year. It will be a great learning experience, lot’s of great photography, and we’ll have some fun along the way.
